Online learning: tools and communication
Aims
The idea of this introductory unit is to get you talking and thinking about the range of online tools available to us, and look specifically at how these relate to different types and purposes of communication between participants (learners and tutors) in an online learning context. This unit will enable us all to get to know each other better, for you to become familiar with some of the tools we're going to use during the course unit, and for us to read and exchange ideas about some introductory literature.
Objectives
By the end of this unit you will have begun to:
- identify the range of online tools available to online learning;
- reflect on the roles these tools might play in online distance/distributed learning;;
- explore how some of these tools in themselves might drive developments in learning paradigms;
- think about the nature of communication through such tools.
We expect to cover this unit during weeks 2 and 3, with the online seminar at the end of that week.
Approaches
You will be:
- reading online input;
- carrying out some directed reading;
- sharing experiences of technology use;
- meeting synchronously in Adobe Connect.
